Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s):


  1. How do I register for an event?
    • Go to tirnbeachcleanup.blogspot.com to register. Only one person from the group needs to enter information as well as dates of availability. 
  2. What days of the week can we schedule a group cleanup?
    • With registration and advance notice, groups can schedule a cleanup Monday through Friday as well as some Saturdays and Sundays depending on the availability of our volunteer site captains. When you submit your form, please contact Joanie at  joanie@tirn.net to discuss dates.
  3. What do I do if I find a location in need of a cleanup?
  4. How do I “Adopt a Beach”?
  5. What areas are clean up options?
    • This program focuses on beaches around Galveston Island. We can also organize a neighborhood cleanup if your group is interested in helping the island interior.
  6. What should I bring to a cleanup?
    • Please bring a 5 gallon bucket and a pair of reusable gloves to reduce waste and be more sustainable. We do have some supplies available if needed, so please coordinate with Theresa or Robin once your cleanup is scheduled.
  7. What should I wear to a cleanup?
    • Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes, weather-appropriate layers, sunscreen or SPF protective clothing, sunglasses and a hat. Be aware that there is little shade on the beach. 
  8. Can I complete community service hours by volunteering?
    • Yes! Please check in with your site captain before and after to record hours and signatures. 
  9. How do we cancel a scheduled group beach cleanup?
    • Please notify Joanie at least 72 hours before cancelling. 
  10. Will rain cancel a cleanup?
    • In general, beach cleanups are all weather events. However, heavy rain, high tides, and high wind will cause us to cancel. Please watch the weather and keep in contact with your site captain before the event.
